What is strategic school staffing?
Strategic school staffing is a movement to fundamentally redesign the educator role and how schools are staffed, benefitting both educators and learners. . Schools are embracing new staffing models to address long standing issues in education and improve teacher satisfaction and learning outcomes. The Strategic School Staffing Summit, now in its sixth year, celebrates these innovative and practical approaches to strategic school staffing with an emphasis on ideas, strategies, practices and conditions that enable a more diverse, team-based education workforce. Rob Weil of the American Federation of Teachers discusses collective bargaining, how we can use it to promote strategic school staffing and other issues educators face in the one-teacher, one-classroom model.
Strengthening the education workforce in Michigan
Chris Torres of the University of Michigan discusses Michigan’s education workforce. Chris shared findings from his research on Michigan’s education workforce and the state’s multi-stakeholder approach to strengthening it.
Addressing structural challenges through strategic school staffing
Kelly Kovacic-Duran, principal consultant at Education First, discusses how strategic school staffing can benefit both educators and learners. Kelly shares how schools can be the unit of change in addressing challenges in education and how this is a pivotal moment to think about how we organize staff in our schools.
